New Student!

Welcome to Scott! We are so happy to have him joining our class.

In English, we talked about using Multiple Meaning Words in writing. We also chatted about identifying Character Traits in short stories. When we start talking about words with multiple meanings, there are some basic definitions that we need to discuss first. Those definitions are the ones attached to homonyms, homophones, and homographs. Homonyms are words which have the same spelling and pronunciation, but have different meaningsWhen we talk about a character, we often describe that character in terms of character traits, descriptive adjectives like happy or sad that tell us the specific qualities of the character.

In Life Skills, we talked about Checking Out our A Store and the skills needed to do this successfully. After you have finished shopping, you need to check out with your groceries. This means you have to take the groceries to a register. While there, a cashier will scan your items. You then have to pay for them.

In Current Events we read an article entitled Can Aerial Gondolas Alleviate New York City's Traffic Woes? from Dogo News. For the residents of Manhattan's surrounding boroughs that commute to the island, congestion is a way of life, especially during work hours when subways and bridges are jammed with people. That is the reason New York-based developer City Realty, is proposing the construction of high-speed aerial gondolas as alternate transportation between Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. The  East River Skyway project was presented by the company at the Massey Knakal Brooklyn Real Estate Summit held at the Brooklyn Museum on September 16th. City Realty's President Dennis Levy said that the inspiration for the idea came from the success of similar projects in Portland, London, and Rio de Janeiro.
