In Current Events we read and answered questions about an article from Dogo News entitled "Listening Tree" Brings Back The Fun Of Discovering New Music. Thanks to services like iTunes, Spotify and Pandora, most people have given up the quest of discovering new music and instead chosen to depend on ready-made playlists or recommendations made by others. Now thanks to the "Listening Tree", music lovers can re-discover the pleasure of unearthing their own musical gems.

Located in the courtyard of the Bunkhouse Saloon in downtown Las Vegas, the permanent installation that was unveiled on August 25th, is the brainchild of George Zisiadis. The San Francisco-based artist who specializes in quirky urban art projects wanted to provide listeners a unique experience where they could escape from their hectic lives and also find themselves through the songs they connect with.

In Science, we learned about how the Solar System was formed.  How did the solar system form? Scientists have studied this question for many years. They have learned much from studying our own planet and solar system. They have also studied other solar systems in the universe to find clues. Today, scientists generally believe our solar system began about 4.6 billion years ago. It started out as a spinning cloud of gas and dust. Something caused the materials to begin to clump together. Scientists think maybe it was a shockwave from a supernova.

In Health we talked about vitamins we get from food or other supplements.  Do you make sure your food is rich in vitamins? Maybe you take a vitamin pill every day. What exactly are vitamins? Why do you need them? Where can you find them? Vitamins are substances the body needs in order to work, grow, and develop properly. They are found in foods. There are thirteen vitamins the human body needs. They are vitamins A, C, D, E, and K, along with eight different B vitamins. Each type of vitamin has a special job.

Today in English, we worked on creating a Halloween poetry. We read a poem written about Halloween Night and worked on our own poems about the spooky holiday. Stay tuned for our poems, we will be publishing them in class.

It's Halloween night and you stare all around,
Jumping at every Halloween sound.
Soft wisps of smoke from the chimneys arise
Adding a veil to the darkening skies.

Outside there are spiders and ghosts in the trees,
And witches and goblins, whose cackles the breeze
Brings frighteningly close to your listening ears.
With closed eyes you struggle to banish your fears.

You see fiery pumpkins that grin in the night.
Are monsters there hiding and waiting to bite?
Will a scarecrow awaken and chase after you?
Will a ghost in the bushes jump out to yell, "Boo!"?

It's Halloween night, and you're out on the prowl.
Though black cats may screech and though lonely dogs howl,
And you may be tempted to hide 'neath your bed,
Remember there's safety in numbers instead.

You've waited all month for an evening of fun,
So put on a costume and be anyone
Creepy or funny or pretty or tough.
Candy and trinkets–you can't get enough!

With brothers or sisters or cousins or friends
The fear level's lowered, and everyone spends
More time being silly–less time being scared.
When spooky things happen, you'll be well-prepared!

Don't let the whoo-whooing of owls get to you,
Don't let those dark shadows your courage undo.
It's Halloween night, time for parties and treats,
So gather your friends for some gobbling-good sweets!
