Homework and Notes from 10/3/14

No Homework! Have a great weekend :)

Notes:

In English we talked about the differences between adverbs and adjectives. An adverb is something that describes a verb. An adjectives describes a noun. We worked on some examples and practiced applying them to our writing.

In Science we had a reading comprehension Could There Be Water On The Moon?  The first American astronauts landed on the moon on July 20, 1969. Several other missions after that explored the moon's surface. Astronauts even brought moon rocks back to Earth to study them. None of the many samples of moon rocks contained any trace of water. Because the astronauts didn't see any water on the moon and scientists didn't detect any in the lab, no one believed there could be any water on the moon. Then in 1994, an American spacecraft called Clementine beamed radio waves toward different areas of the moon. Some of the areas included a few craters that never receive any sunlight. Mostly the radio waves were reflected back by what appeared to be ground-up rock. But in one part of a huge dark crater, the radio waves were reflected back as if by ice!

In Current Events we talked about Mars One mission that starts in 2024.If you are a space buff, visiting Mars is probably at the top of your list. It is therefore no wonder that when the Mars One Foundation announced that they were seeking four qualified applicants to send on an all expenses paid trip to the Red Planet, over 200,000 people from 140 countries expressed their interest. The only catch? It will be a one-way trip because their mission will be to establish the first human settlement on Mars!
Given that the only qualifications required was that the applicant had to be over 18, curious, resourceful and able to build and maintain relationships, meant that almost anybody that had ever dreamt of going to space could enter, which is probably why so many people were encouraged to try their luck.
