Current Events

Today in Current Events we read an article from Dogo News about the
Goblin Shark. A fisherman trawling for shrimp in the Gulf of Mexico, south of Key West, Florida, got the surprise of his life when he pulled up the nets on April 19th - intermingled with the tiny shrimp was a giant shark, the kind that one would only expect to encounter in a horror movie! What was even scarier, was that the shark was alive and menacingly trashing around the deck, trying its best to escape.

#WEEKINREVIEW
Believe it or not, we have published our 12th edition so far this school year! What started as an experiment in January, has turned into a great learning experience for Mr. Cusimano and Mr. Giangaspro's classes. We continue to put our spin on Current Events with our unique newspaper.

#WeekinReview has been an awesome addition to our school community, and we continue to love hearing back from everyone! This work will continue to be for the kids by our kids. Don't forget to vote in our unique polls on our digital site. gaweekinreview.weebly.com/. Enjoy!

Sincerely,
Mr. Steven Giangaspro

Today we learned about haikus. A haiku is a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five, traditionally evoking images of the natural world. We wrote Mother's Day haikus! They did a great job.

Today was the first day of the Book Fair. There was an amazing selection of books. I would like to specifically thank Mrs. DeSiano & Mrs. Simpson for their generous purchases for our class. We will definitely get a lot of use out of those books.  THANK YOU!

In English, we read about Mother's Day around the World. Mother's Day is celebrated in different ways all over the world. Mother's Day is celebrated on different dates as well. The second Sunday in February is set aside for Mother's Day in Norway. In several Middle Eastern countries it is celebrated on the first day of spring. August 12 is Mother's Day in Thailand. The last Sunday in November is Mother's Day in Russia. Americans celebrate Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May along with more than seventy other countries around the world.
