Check out our new literature board in our classroom.  Our class is consistently analyzing short stories, excerpts from various novels and poems in different genres. We are talking about author’s purpose and how perspective affects an authors’ writing style even in fictional texts. We are looking at the lives of famous authors like Lois Lowry, Louis Sachar, Carl Hiassen, JK Rowling, J.R.R  Tolkien, Jerry Spinelli, Shel Silverstein and Jeff Kinney. By studying their lives, we can better understand what influenced them throughout the writing process.

We are asking the critical questions:
How do our lives affect the way we write?
How can we use our own personal experiences to add to our writing pieces?
