In Career Development, we learned about what it takes to be a Park Ranger. During this week we will highlighting jobs of interest that could be obtained. Park rangers act as stewards of state and national parks, working to
keep these natural areas safe for wildlife and plant species and
accessible to the millions of people who visit them each year. They have
job duties as varied as protecting endangered areas, teaching visitors
about wildlife and plants, gathering scientific information and
conducting search and rescue operations. This article provides
information on the career of a park ranger, the requirements for
becoming one, and finding a job with the National Parks Service or
within a state park system.
In Science, we talked about what goes into making and setting up fireworks. Firecrackers have been around for hundreds of years. They consist of either black powder or flash powder in a tight paper tube with a fuse to light the powder. Black powder
contains charcoal, sulfur and potassium nitrate. A composition used in a
firecracker might have aluminum instead of or in addition to charcoal
in order to brighten the explosion.

In Current Events, we discussed a very interesting article entitled Orangutans Plan Their Days and Publicize Them Just Like Humans from Dogo News. Check our the article here! Just as we humans are feeling all smug about our abilities to broadcast our daily schedule and plans via social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, comes news that we are no pioneers - Male Orangutans have been doing it for years, without requiring computers or sophisticated technology.
In English, we read an article entitled What is a Knight? by John Farman. We talked about different purposes of reading and this story was about reading for information. We also discussed activating prior knowledge and connecting with the reading. When you activate prior knowledge, you use information that you already know to better understand what you read. Remembering what you have learned, seen, or experienced can help you make sense of new information. It can also help you predict what a section is about or what might happen next. We discussed what we knew about knight's responsibilities, a knight's character and place in society and a time period which knights lived.
PIZZA FRIDAY TOMORROW. Don't forget your money if you would like to buy a slice. $2 a slice.
